All technicians at Dave Mays Automotive are ASE certified. The non-profit NIASE (National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence) was established to distinguish between competent and incompetent technicians. NIASE provides initial testing and recertification testing (every five years) for various specialty areas that reflect the latest technology required to service and repair modern vehicles.
Most technicians at Dave Mays Automotive have attained the designation of ASE Master Certified Technician that includes competencies in the following eight basic areas. A1 Engine Repair A2 Automatic Transmission/Transaxle; A3 Manual Drive Train and Axles; A4 Suspension and Steering; A5 Brakes; A6 Electrical/Electronics Systems; A7 Heating and Air Conditioning; A8 Engine Performance.

Additionally, some have certifications in F1 Light Vehicle Compressed Natural Gas; L1 Automobile Advance Engine Performance Specialists; L2 Truck and Advanced Electronic Diesel Engine Diagnostics and numerous other special designations.

Dave Mays Automotive has a distinct advantage in diagnostics and repairs over a majority of dealership and independent service technicians. To maintain this edge, Dave Mays Automotive has an ongoing commitment to continuing education. Our technicians attend numerous aftermarket classes, online seminars and training classes. For example, at our current facility, we have hosted industry training for Ford diesel trucks.

DAVE MAYS

OWNER / ASE MASTER TECHNICIAN

Dave Mays has always been interested in insects. He amassed a collection, and by the time he went to Oregon State University, entomology became his specialization after considering forestry. He received a B.S. degree and completed a M.S. in entomology before migrating to Gainesville, Florida for a PhD in entomology (completed in 1975). Frustrated with repair attempts by automotive “professionals” in Gainesville, he began to do his own repairs and maintenance. While working on his degree, Dave worked part-time at a Milex Precision Auto Tune-Up, where he sharpened his skills with carburetors, engine diagnostics and repairs under the supervision of James Latshaw and Brad Simpson.
